VM Art Gallery is pleased to present Rising Art, a group show of Hanif Shahzad’s art students. The exhibition will open at 5 pm on Saturday, 24th September 2022, and continue till 1st October 2022, Monday to Saturday, 11 am to 7 pm.

Taking forward its mission of supporting aspiring artists, VM Art Gallery has given a platform to the art students from the Rangoonwala Community Center to showcase their works. Participating artists include Farah Akbar, Farah Bilal, Fareeha Yousuf, Mahnoor Afzal, Hiba Moeen, Mazra Ghouri, Aisha Anis, Zohra Hafeez, Pushplata, Rizwana Akhtar, Shahida Jamila, Sheema Arif and Syeda Humaira Sami.

VM Art Gallery is pleased to announce Memoirs of a Hybrid, a solo presentation of works by Shameen Arshad. The exhibition will open at 5pm on 8th September 2022 and continue till 27th September 2022, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

Shameen Arshad’s work looks at the fluidity of identity and the evolving nature of the category “Pakistani”. Stemming from her personal experiences, she explores a confused sense of the self and various ideas of ownership by giving tangibility to the multi-dimensional yet indeterminate character of that label.

Reflecting on the tumultuous geo-political history, and the effects of colonialism and cultural imperialism, Arshad’s artwork tends to illustrate a sense of displacement and dislocation, the feeling of residing in no man’s land and being unable to call any place home.

Enhancing our mission to support budding artists from Pakistan, this two-day workshop will be the first of many to prepare art students for a professional gallery environment. The holistic design of the workshop, comprising of conceptual and technical approaches will inculcate the necessary skills required in the navigation of art practices and procedures nationally and internationally.

By the end of this workshop
- The participants will be able to think through their practices and write about them with critical coherence.
- The workshop will not only instill professionalism in the participants but will allow them to present their work with apt articulation.
- Participants will become well-informed about different art funding opportunities, gallery exhibition processes, and international art institutions.

VM Art Gallery is pleased to present Emblems of Here, Then and Now, a two-person show featuring works by Amna Suheyl and Haniya Ali Athar. The exhibition will open on 27th July 2022 at 5pm and continue till 20th August 2022, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

Through their unique methods of printmaking, viewers are taken through the artists' journey of resolving and defining identities, history and self.

The myriad reflections of the feminine are pivotal to Amna Suheyl’s narrative as a researcher and visual artist. Her work is inspired by her family’s matriarchal history as well as an observation of the feminine presence around her. Suheyl turns women in her daily life into characters – heroines, who maintain the harmony of life through empathy and companionship. They appear as harbingers of hope, sustenance, and calm; sometimes as storytellers carrying traditions forward, sometimes being the subtle burden-carriers of loss, and other times as the fertile, the sensual, the formidable. The feminine manifests new beginnings from the ashes of broken societies.

Haniya Ali Athar’s work documents her quest of finding herself through various objects that surround her, inspire her and hold diverse meaning for her. The play of mundane and utilitarian items form the essence of her work where they are not lifeless materials but characters with human like presence. The fantasy like visual language of Athar’s work reflects a surreal state of mind.

Entering its 18th season, VM Art Gallery is now accepting applications for the Emerging Talent Exhibition. With the aim of promoting upcoming artists of the country, all undergraduate students of visual arts in their thesis year (2021-2022) from universities across Pakistan are welcome to apply.

Those students who have applied before are not eligible to apply.

Emerging Talent is VM Art Gallery's signature event and a highlight of the Gallery's curatorial calendar. Developed in 2003, the Emerging Talent Exhibition was the first of its kind, showcasing fresh graduate works from all over the country under one roof.

VM Art Gallery is proud to host VMCTA Graduation Exhibition 2022. This exhibition features works of the second graduating batch of VM Centre for Traditional Arts’s diploma program, participating artists include Shanila Dadabhoy, Luluwa Lokhandwala, Sahar Alamgir, Faryal Diwan, Shahzad Zer, Zubair Ansari and Sana Irfan.
The exhibition will continue till 6th July 2022, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

Established by a proud partnership with The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, London, VM Centre for Traditional Arts is a full-time, one-year program that aims to help revive Pakistan’s artistic skills and techniques, and to revitalize the relevance of traditional arts in contemporary Pakistan.

The diploma program seeks to draw out the skills of both aspiring young artists and practicing professionals who are aiming to pursue or enhance a career in the field of art. The Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts seeks to nurture within its students an understanding of the intrinsic, sacred value of the traditional arts.

The culmination of the diploma year is a project of the student’s own design that integrates geometry, design, and craftsmanship. This year the final project work includes carving, ralli, three-dimensional geometry, illuminated paintings, and satrangi tiles.
