A Six-Month Intensive Course in the Art of Kathak

VMPA Presents ‘Raqs-e-Nazakat: A Six-Month Intensive Course in the Art of Kathak’ by Ahmed Ibn e Sakeena.

This six-month Kathak course is a comprehensive program designed to take students from foundational skills to polished stage performances. Each session builds progressively, beginning with the basics of Kathak, including its history, postures, footwork (Tatkaar), and hand movements (Hastak). As the course advances, students explore rhythmic structures like teen taal, tukras, toras, parans, and chakkars (spins), while developing coordination and expression (abhinaya). By mid-course, participants focus on storytelling through dance, learning gats, poetry-based expressions, and improvisational techniques. The final months are dedicated to refining performance skills, building a repertoire, and enhancing stage presence. The program culminates in a full recital where students present a 20/30 minutes sequence that integrates rhythm, movement, and emotive storytelling.
