17th Emerging Talent Exhibition!

The exhibition will open on Saturday 15th January 2022 from 11am -7pm and continue till the 17th of February, 2022.

This year’s Emerging Talent exhibition features artworks of graduates from 18 institutes around the country. In its 17th season, Emerging Talent has remained a distinctive event, catering to both seasoned and young collectors.

Emerging Talent is VM Art Gallery’s signature event and a highlight of the Gallery's curatorial calendar. Developed in 2003, the Emerging Talent Exhibition was the first of its kind, showcasing fresh graduate works from all over the country under one roof. The exhibition serves multiple purposes; it highlights different bodies of artwork, creates conversation between the different forms of pedagogy practiced in each institution, and also catapults emerging artists into the professional world of gallery exhibitions. Additionally, the exhibition provides an opportunity for gallerists, collectors, and other artists to witness the evolution of contemporary art making practices in Pakistan. Many of the graduates featured in the Emerging Talent Exhibition have gone on to have successful careers as artists.

We graze in the sun. We graze in squalor. We exist quietly., a solo show featuring works by Shazia Zuberi.

The exhibition will continue till 28th December 2021, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

This oeuvre tends to celebrate clay’s tactile and transformational nature through firings. Zuberi has used markhor, Pakistan’s national animal as a symbol to represent the citizens of Pakistan. She believes that our citizenry and the national animal are deeply entwined and are not too different. They hang in a fine balance.

Clay tells a story of the natural past, Zuberi’s series often highlights nature’s footprint of the present. Her work encapsulates the representation of human existence in scape of the past. Whereas her figurative abstract work has been used as a documentation of human presence. The work stresses upon the need to maintain a fine balance between nature and communal human needs. This latest series sees this predicament depicted through the use of symbolism.

The exhibition will continue till 28th December 2021, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

This exhibition showcases a curated selection of sculptural works by Rabia Zuberi. The work covers various series, such as, Inner feelings, Beauty of Human Form, Drapery Series, Quest for Peace and Human Existence, produced throughout her art career.

Drawing inspiration from her surroundings, Zuberi’s work is a narration of changing socio-political circumstances. Her areas of exploration include the relationship of a mother and child, realities and uncertainties of migration, importance of a dupatta in the Indo-Islamic culture and pursuit of peace amidst misery and chaos. Zuberi’s work also looks at the human form in depth. The elements of investigation are delicacy of texture, rhythmic beauty of posture, continuity of line and weight.

A Call Upon the Earth, a selection of works by Riffat Alvi. The exhibition will continue till 28th December 2021, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.

Paying homage to her practice, this exhibition aims to celebrate Riffat Alvi’s use of earth and nature to create beautiful works of art. Her work is an investigation into the limitations and possibilities of the medium, clay. Using natural interventions and configurations by the medium, Alvi’s work takes an organic form. Moreover, the inclusion of different types of sand, gravel and twigs, delineates Alvi’s relationship nature.

VM Art Gallery is pleased to present Forms of Existence, a presentation of works by Rabia Zuberi from VM Art Gallery’s permanent collection. The exhibition will open on Friday 10th December 2021 at 5 pm and continue till 28th December 2021, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm.
