Zikr – Remembrance
VM Art Gallery is pleased to present Zikr, a group show featuring calligraphy works by Mohammad Kashif Khan, Naveed Maroof, and Rukhsana Mahmood. The exhibition will open on 3rd May 2021 and continue till 22nd May 2021.
Mohammad Kashif Khan is an educator, calligrapher, and illumination artist in Islamic calligraphy and Oriental Art in multiple mediums. He received his BA from AIOU in 2000, and is currently matriculated at the Federal Govt. Urdu University for his MA in Mass Communication. He is passionate about the propagation and revival of classical art forms. He has received the Noon-Wal-Qalum Award for Calligraphy, Illumination, and Oriental Art in 2017, and the Sadequain Award in 2012, amongst many others.
Naveed Maroof is a professional calligrapher with over 12 years of experience in this field. He has won awards at the national level and has participated in many national and international exhibitions. Passionate about reviving the calligraphy art form in Pakistan, Naveed has been working with the Karachi School of Art for its promotion and development.
Rukhsana Mahmood is a Karachi based calligrapher and illumination artist who has been affiliated with the field for eleven years. She received a BA in philosophy from St Joseph’s College. She is one of the first female calligraphers whose works have been nationally recognized and exhibited at the prestigious exhibition, Noon-Wal-Qalum Islamabad in 2017, where she also received the Women Best Calligrapher Award. She has also received the Best Female Calligrapher award at Sardar Bahadur Khan University, Quetta in 2015, and the Sadequain Award in 2013 and 2014. She has regularly exhibited at the Nomood-e-Khataati as well.
